Jocasta is a product of the soul, reggae and drum n’ bass melting pot that describes the music of Bristol, UK. When you also take into account that both of her parents are professional musicians with a jazz flavour, you begin to realize where Jo’s earliest influences came from. She simply had no choice; there was no way she couldn’t become a unique singer and songwriter. As her musical palette continued to evolve, further inspiration from icons such as Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, and even ska legends Madness all made a lasting impression on her. Which brings us to her debut release on MoreHouse, “Girls Are Evil.” The title sounds a lot harsher than the tune is intended to be. It’s part cheeky slapstick, and part retaliation to girls that simply love to bring you down. Jo’s fresh vocal and lyrical styling on “Girls” clearly tag her as ‘one to watch’. The package includes 5 uniquely different remixes, along with 3 instrumental versions, and the Original midtempo Ska Version ( 9 mixes in all) to satisfy a variety of musical tastes.
