MastikSoul’s career started in 92 - splitting his time between Portugal and France, he watched the rise of dance music. His strong African roots began to hone his unique talent for production. Back then, MastikSoul started out producing Techno, but by the late 90’s came the desire to embrace other styles. MastikSoul’s sound was born..
His vision and style, both clearly reflect his origins - very percussive and tribal, and by early 2000, MastikSoul’s productions had been well noticed and acclaimed by some of the biggest names in the scene; Danny Tenaglia, Tony Thomas, Tom Stephan, Grant Dell, Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Layo, Circulation, Justin Drake from Peace Division. Not to mention catching the eye’s and ears of the scene’s main dance press - Mixmag, Jockey Slut, IDJ & DJ Magazine.
During this ascent, MastikSoul moved to London in 2000 and set-up a studio, where he began 4Kenzo Records. The move to London increased his notoriety, and it wasn’t long before he was flying all over the world with his brand of House Music.
2003, saw 4Kenzo Recordings really begin to cement it’s position on the scene, and also saw Mastiksoul release the “South Tribal Ep.”, on Difference Records – which fully brought Mastiksoul the international recognition he deserves. The track got licensed to countless Mix-CD’s, and, a UK television show. Hot on the heels of the ‘South Tribal EP’, came another monster in the form of, “I Believe” – which was quickly supported by the worlds leading DJ’s, while also finding it’s way onto ‘Evil’ Eddie Richard’s mix for the revered Fabric CD Series. Workflow starts to seriously increase, and MastikSoul starts new label Moxi Records with is fellow tribal guru Tony Thomas. With support from Carl Cox and Tenaglia to name a few, Moxi Records becomes a benchmark label. By 2006, MastikSoul reached another level as a producer with collaborations with DJ Sneak and Renato Cohen. More dedicated to is own labels now, MastikSoul sees label 4kenzo recordings become one of the top labels in the world with a roster that includes; DJ Sneak, Renato Cohen, Brett Johnson, Johnny Fiasco,1200 Warriors, Angel Alanis, Tony Thomas & Joey Youngman just to name a few.
MastikSoul also started Kitsam Rec, a digital label exclusive for Beatport and sees plays from top DJ´s like: Danny Tennaglia / DJ Vibe / Saeed Younan and many more. MastikSoul is now one the top selling artists on Beatport, with records being released on labels such as Azuli, CR2, RobSoul, Magnetic, Guesthouse to name a few. His music has been licensed to a lot of compilations too, most notably; Global Grooves mixed by DJ Vibe, Sneak-Beats Ministry of Sound mixed by DJ Sneak and House of Om mixed by Johnny Fiasco. Portuguese main magazine Dance Club nominates MastikSoul as best Portuguese producer in 2006.
It is no surprise that by now, MastikSoul is a very busy artist. Relentless high-quality output from the studio all at the same time as constantly touring the worlds best clubs and parties. His massive collaboration with Saeed Younan hit #1 on Beatport for 4 weeks and again found it’s way onto the world best mix CD’s. After years of releasing music and touring the world MastikSoul is about to release his first album to much anticipation.
MastikSoul is now a world leader in dance music, having sold over 250,000 records. With comments like “Portugal’s finest” from Roger Sanchez, “My favorite DJ & Producer” from Dj Sneak, “Anything from MastikSoul is my Top 10” by Stacie Pullen”, it’s easy to see why Portugal’s main man is riding a very high wave of popularity, and regarded by many as the big act for 2009.
