It's finally here!!!! The golden age of the new wave era comes to DeepSound Records with updated 2011 house versions of "City of Night" by one of the pioneers of the alternative/synth-pop era, Rational Youth. The Canadian band, then composed of the duo of Tracy Howe and Bill Vorn, who along with such early 1980s bands as Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Soft Cell, Human League, and Men Without Hats redefined synth-heavy grooves destined for global dancefloors, return with their Paris-influenced signature track, "City of Night", initially released on the independent YUL Records in 1982.
"City of Night 2011", fully approved by Rational Youth and its original label, brings the band back to not only to its faithful international fan base, but also to a new, unsuspecting dancefloor-savvy world which can now be introduced to Howe's uncanny alternative vocal stylings. The updated versions include two mixes by label head Max Julien, with his faithful-to-the-original "Thunderdome Mix", named after the most famous alternative club in Montréal's nightlife history (where he held a DJ residency), and the deep, dark, and powerful "Afterhours in Paris Mix", perfect for today's underground all-night house scene. Also included on the package are remixes by Brazilian veteran Marco Zappala as well as two more from the Montréal remixer duo of Omar Cito Perez & E.P. Bergen, the latter of Bran Van 3000 fame.
Watch out for two more packages in the spring as French versions of the track, "Cité Phosphore 2011", will be released on DeepSound Records, as well as trance versions of both "City of Night 2011" and "Cité Phosphore 2011", which will see the light on trance sister label DeepMoon Records.
A dancefloor classic has indeed returned...
